US President Donald Trump plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday to mediate an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the calls aim to halt the “bloodbath” in Ukraine, which he claims is killing over 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers weekly.
The American President wrote: “Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will take place, and very violent war, a war that should have never happened, will end.”

The planned calls come after direct talks between Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul failed to yield a ceasefire agreement.
Despite agreeing to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, the parties remain far apart on key conditions for ending the fighting. Ukraine’s strategy has been to convince the US administration that Putin is unreliable, while Trump has expressed frustration with stalled talks and threatened to abandon efforts if results aren’t achieved.
In a recent drone strike, nine civilians were killed and seven wounded when a Russian drone hit a bus evacuating people from Bilopillia, a town near Russia’s border. Zelenskyy described the attack as “deliberate killing of civilians” and urged tougher sanctions against Moscow if it rejects a full ceasefire.
Key Developments:
– Prisoner Swap: Both sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, potentially as early as next week.
– Ceasefire Conditions: The Kremlin has pushed back against Ukraine’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire, and Moscow will present Ukraine with a list of conditions for a ceasefire.
– International Response: Ukraine’s European allies, including the UK and Germany, have condemned the recent attack and vowed to increase pressure on Moscow with added sanctions.
