Trump Administration Revokes Student Visas in Immigration Crackdown

The Trump administration has revoked more than 6,000 student visas in 2025 as part of a significant immigration crackdown. According to Fox News Digital, this initiative targets visa overstays, criminal behavior, and alleged support for terrorism.

State Department officials reported that roughly 4,000 of these visas were revoked after students were arrested or charged with crimes such as assault, DUI, and burglary. Another 200 to 300 revocations were linked to terrorism allegations, including cases where students were accused of raising funds for Hamas.

The policy also extends to students involved in political demonstrations, specifically pro-Palestinian protests. In May, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the administration is reviewing the visa status of students involved in such protests and “will continue to revoke the visas of people who are here as guests and are disrupting our higher education facilities.”

Overall, about 40,000 visas have been revoked in 2025, a sharp increase from the 16,000 revoked during the same period of the Biden administration.

The enforcement campaign follows several executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in January, which direct federal agencies to intensify screening of foreign nationals and combat terrorism. Critics, however, argue that the policy undermines civil liberties and unfairly targets foreign students, with Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) calling it “a fundamental attack on freedom.”
