Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, July 17, announced that the University of Maiduguri will be renamed in honour of the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.
According to President, institution will now be called Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri.
The announcement was made during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened to pay tribute to Buhari.
Presiding over the meeting, President Tinubu delivered a heartfelt eulogy, describing Buhari as a leader defined by discipline, moral integrity, and deep patriotism.
“Before we take the prayers — in honour of his memory, with this special session of the Federal Executive Council (expanded) — can we adopt the naming of the University of Maiduguri with a new name: Muhammadu Buhari University, Maiduguri,” Tinubu said, drawing applause from those in attendance.
