Tinubu Declares Security Emergency In Nigeria as He Directs Major Police and Military Recruitments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has declared a security emergency in Nigeria in the wake of recent alleged terror attacks including abductions of students, women and children as well as killings of people by armed bandits.

Declaring the security emergency on Wednesday night, November 26, 2025, Tinubu also ordered a massive military and police recruitments.

According to President Tinubu in a statement, the level of recent security breaches demand an urgent, coordinated response, saying “The times require all hands on deck.”

The President ordered the Nigeria Police Force (NPC) to recruit additional 20,000 officers, thereby increasing its ongoing recruitment to 50,000 officers.

In a bid to speed up the recruitments exercise, President Tinubu has allowed the police to use Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as temporary training depots.

The President again directed all police officers recently withdrawn from VIP guard duties to undergo crash reorientation courses ahead of deployment to vulnerable communities and high-risk environments.

Additionally, the President also granted approval to the Nigerian Army to expand recruitments.

He also ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately deploy all trained forest guards to remove armed bandits hiding in forests across Nigeria.

According to him, “This is a national emergency, and we are responding by deploying more boots on the ground, especially in security-challenged areas.”

He added that “There will be no more hiding places for agents of evil.”
