TikTok Creator ‘Peller’ Ordered to Pay Taxes by Lagos State Government

The Lagos State Government has stated that popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, must pay taxes, following his public complaint about receiving a N36 million tax bill.

Abdulkabir Ogungbo, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tax and Revenue, said that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) is responsible for assessing and issuing tax notices. He noted that paying taxes is a civic responsibility for anyone earning income in Lagos State, and that recent reforms cover virtual transactions and digital assets.

Peller, a 20-year-old influencer who gained fame in 2024, had questioned why he was being asked to pay such a large amount, saying he had only recently come into the limelight.

Ogungbo responded that while Peller’s specific case would be reviewed, anyone who earns income in Lagos and benefits from the state’s infrastructure is expected to pay tax there. He added that the LIRS operates independently and efficiently but promised to engage the agency on Peller’s case before providing further clarification.
