A disturbing incident unfolded in Ghana’s Parliament last night, as a group of thugs infiltrated a committee meeting and launched a vicious attack on members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, a former Information Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi, recounted the chilling events to the press.
“I don’t know if you were present last night, but we witnessed thugs attacking members of Parliament during a committee meeting. This is a serious matter that cannot be overlooked,” Oppong Nkrumah emphasized, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The attack escalated to the point where police intervention was necessary to ensure the safety of the MPs present. “It was only through the swift action of the police that our leadership was safely removed from the chamber,” Oppong Nkrumah explained.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with video footage showing chaotic scenes inside the chamber. Oppong Nkrumah pointed out that some attackers even identified their regions, raising questions about the motivations behind the attack.
In response, Oppong Nkrumah called for immediate action to strengthen security measures within Parliament. “Such an event should never happen again,” he stressed, underscoring the need for cooperation among members to ensure the safety of parliamentarians.
