Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has stirred conversation with a bold take on artistic authenticity, saying “the only authentic person in this life was Jesus.”

She made the remark during an interview on Accra-based TV3’s Showbiz 360.

The singer, who is in Ghana for the Tidal Rave Festival 2025, used the platform to explain why she fully embraces sampling and external inspiration in her music.

During the interview monitored by Africa Publicity, Ayra Starr said she sees no shame in drawing from the work of others, insisting that creativity thrives on influence.

“I am very unashamed when it comes to sampling or picking references, because we are nothing without the people who inspire us,” she said.

Challenging the common call for artists to always be original, she added:

“I don’t believe in we must all be every time authentic.”

The “Bloody Samaritan” hitmaker also opened up about the emotional themes she gravitates toward when songwriting.

“I find it difficult to write true love songs, but very easy to write heartbreak songs,” she revealed.

On collaborations, Ayra Starr noted that personal connection to the music is crucial before she agrees to work with another artist.

“I have to really like a song to accept a collaboration,” she said.

The star appeared on Showbiz 360 ahead of her performance at the Tidal Rave Festival, which takes place today, Saturday, 15th November 2025, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. Fans are anticipating a thrilling show as the festival kicks off with Ayra Starr among its headline performers.
