Nigerian singer Terry G has publicly come out in support of Burna Boy as reactions continue to trail the viral video of the Grammy winner sending out a couple who appeared to be sleeping during his concert performance.
The incident, which took place at one of Burna Boy’s recent shows, sparked widespread backlash and reportedly led to the cancellation of some of his upcoming U.S. concerts. But Terry G has now weighed in, arguing that the public’s rush to criticize celebrities is often unfair.
The Church vs. Concert Comparison
In a video response, Terry G questioned the underlying logic of ticket buyers who attend high-energy performances only to fall asleep. He drew a sharp comparison between the public expectation of a musician and that of a religious leader.
Terry G defend Burna Boy saying: “Una too like to dey hold people accountable just because dem don be public figure. If this thing happen for church and person dey sleep, pastors go tell ushers to wake am. But because he’s a musician, you go his show to sleep so camera fit capture am and spoil his performance.”
He suggested that moments like these are often intentionally captured by cameras and used unfairly to portray an artist in a negative light, arguing that the focus should be on the performer’s right to demand engagement.
Terry G’s argument highlights the double standards often applied to public figures in the Nigerian entertainment space.
