Telecel Ghana Wins Corporate Excellence Award for Workplace Safety at National Safety Awards 2025

On July 14, 2025, Telecel Ghana was honored with the Corporate Excellence Award at the inaugural National Safety Awards, held at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) headquarters in Accra, for its outstanding leadership in workplace safety. The award, presented under the theme “Recognizing Excellence, Inspiring a Culture of Safety,” followed a rigorous national evaluation assessing safety performance, innovation, and culture in workplaces and communities.

The GNFS Safety Directorate praised Telecel Ghana for setting a national benchmark: “Telecel Ghana’s exceptional commitment to safety excellence and its role in building a robust safety culture in Ghana serves as an inspiration to others and demonstrates that safety excellence is achievable across all sectors.” The citation highlighted the company’s proactive fire prevention protocols, comprehensive employee safety training, and partnerships with emergency services to strengthen incident response systems.

Rachael Appenteng, Director of Human Resources at Telecel Ghana, who accepted the award alongside the Health and Safety team, stated, “This recognition is a national endorsement of the safety-first culture we have cultivated at Telecel Ghana over the years. We have embedded best safety practices and sensitization into our daily operations to protect, educate, and empower our people.”

The event, attended by safety leaders, corporate executives, and dignitaries including Minister of Interior Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak and acting GNFS Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, marked Ghana’s first national initiative to recognize safety leadership across sectors like hospitality, finance, and pharmaceuticals. Hon. Muntaka-Mubarak urged Ghanaians to embrace safety as a civic duty, stating, “From the boardroom to the street vendor, let’s make it a civic duty to protect lives and secure properties in Ghana.”

Acting CFO Ntow Sarpong reported that GNFS issued over 9,000 fire permits, conducted 32,000 safety audits, delivered 33,000 public education campaigns, and saved over GHS 354 million in property in 2025. Despite a 0.53% rise in fire incidents, she outlined plans to enhance public education, enforce safety laws, and introduce fire safety curricula in schools, noting, “Safety awareness when started young will become a habit in our homes, schools, markets, workplaces, and all sensitive areas.”

Telecel Ghana, a Top Employer for seven consecutive years as recognized by the Top Employer Institute, has maintained a zero-fatality record over the past decade, underscoring its robust health, safety, and well-being policies.
