Telecel Ghana Engages Ashanti Leaders for Ashanti Month Celebrations

Telecel Ghana’s senior leadership, alongside Telecel Group Board Chair Nicolas Bourg, conducted high-level courtesy visits to Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and Kumasi Mayor Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi in June 2025, as part of the company’s corporate engagements during its Ashanti Month celebrations. The visits aimed to strengthen partnerships, outline plans for Ashanti Month activities, and secure support for Telecel’s infrastructure development.

Throughout June, Telecel is hosting its annual Ashanti Month, featuring events like sponsoring the 68th Asantehene Golf Tournament, trade activations in high-traffic markets, customer visits, community shop expansion, health outreaches, educational donations, and greening initiatives to promote sports, economic growth, digital inclusion, and regional health and wellbeing.

During the visit to Dr. Amoakohene at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi, Telecel Ghana CEO Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai congratulated the minister on his appointment and emphasized the Ashanti Region’s importance as the company’s second-largest customer market. She stated, “Ashanti Month is our annual ritual of celebrating the region’s vibrant people, businesses, schools, and culture by investing directly in its future and giving back. We look forward to working with you to expand the socioeconomic opportunities for more people in the region.”

Dr. Amoakohene, a physician and digital advocacy champion, praised Telecel’s community investments and urged network expansion into rural areas, saying, “I acknowledge the support and role Telecel plays in the region as I have personally benefitted from your good fibre optic service. My recommendation would be that Telecel expands to more rural and remote areas that are strategic and important hubs in the region for socioeconomic growth. Let’s work together to serve the people and communities of the region, including greening the cities.”

At the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, the Telecel delegation congratulated Mayor Boadi on his appointment, briefed him on upcoming activities, and thanked the Assembly for its ongoing support. Nicolas Bourg remarked, “Kumasi is significant to the overall strategy of the business and the Group would do what’s within its power to support its development.” Boadi commended Telecel’s efforts but called for improved connectivity and customer service access, stating, “I would like to thank Telecel Ghana for improving the service in some communities across the city. However, more areas need enhanced connectivity and increased access to customer service points. Beyond that, the Assembly will continue to support you.”

Telecel also revealed plans to invest in network upgrades across the Ashanti Region to provide faster, more reliable service.
