Tebogo Thobejane Requests Privacy as Suspects in Alleged Plot Against Her Remain in Custody

Actress and influencer Tebogo Thobejane has appealed for privacy and understanding as legal proceedings continue following the arrest of businessman Vusimuzi Matlala, who faces charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The charges stem from an alleged plot targeting Thobejane.

Matlala appeared in the Vusimuzi Matlala on May 12, 2025, with his bail application postponed to May 30 due to power issues at the court. He remains in custody alongside co-accused Musa Kekana (35) and Tiego Floyd Mabusela (47), who face similar charges.

In a statement released publicly, Thobejane reflected on the trauma she endured from the incident, which took place last year. Her car was shot at multiple times while she was driving in Morningside. Though she was not physically harmed, a friend she was travelling with sustained injuries. Thobejane was treated for shock at Life Fourways Hospital and has since revealed she continues to live with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

“This journey has not been easy and while justice is in process, I believe it is important to let the law take its course,” she said.

She also shared the emotional burden of facing those who were hurt in the incident and expressed deep sorrow to the families affected.

“It’s something that stays with me every day.”

The former Muvhango actress thanked her supporters and the families impacted for their grace and compassion.

The case remains under judicial consideration, with further court proceedings expected later this month.
