By Art Koroma, a Sierra Leonean Writer and Poet
As the warm Sunday sunlight streams through the windows, our gathering place transforms into a vibrant tapestry of creative expression. The walls are adorned with poems and prose, each piece a testament to the group’s collective imagination. Some voices rise above the rest, echoing the themes of resilience and struggle found in the verses about the slum twins, their words painting vivid pictures that stir the soul. Others resonate with the melancholic tones of the baritone of lament, as if the sorrowful melody could conjure emotions from the very pages.
Yet, on this day of rest, when the world outside slows its frantic pace, our literary haven takes on a different tone. Sunday’s gentle whisper reminds us to seek solace in the beauty of words, to let our creativity wander into the gardens of poetry and philosophy. As we sit together, surrounded by the written word, the boundaries between reality and imagination blur, and our appreciation becomes a dance of interpretation, each step choreographed by the rhythms of our collective creativity.
In this house, on this Sunday, we find ourselves lost in the labyrinth of our thoughts, guided by the threads of curiosity and wonder. The poems and prose posted around us are the brushstrokes on the canvas of our minds, painting a picture of a world both familiar and unknown. And as the day unwinds, our literary haven remains a testament to the power of language, a celebration of the human experience in all its complexity and beauty.
Just as bread nourishes the body, poetry nourishes the soul. It is a universal language that transcends boundaries and speaks to the heart of humanity. In this spirit, we share our words, our stories, and our dreams, believing that poetry, like bread, is indeed for everyone. May our collective creativity continue to inspire, uplift, and bring us closer together.
