By: Alhaji A. Barrie
In a region where chalkboards and textbooks have long been the only tools of learning, the quiet hum of computers now signals a new era. Destiny Christian Academy, nestled in Bagruwa Chiefdom, Moyamba district of Sierra Leone and serving 12 villages, has become a beacon of digital hope—thanks to a bold intervention led by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
Following the school’s standout participation in the Educube Debate at the 2025 Digital Government Summit, Vice President Jalloh pledged 50 million Leones to support their digital transformation. That commitment has now materialized into 13 computers and full internet connectivity, delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation.
This is not just about technology—it’s about unlocking opportunity for every child, regardless of where they live,” said Mr. Ibrahim Sillah, and educationist.
Destiny Christian Academy, which educates over 600 pupils, now boasts a digital lab that opens doors to global knowledge. Students can access online learning platforms, explore STEM subjects, and build digital literacy skills essential for the future. Teachers are receiving training to integrate these tools into their classrooms, ensuring long-term impact.
“We’ve taught with chalk and blackboards for years,” said Mr. Sillah. “Now, students can explore the world from their classroom.
The Educube Debate, organized by the Educube Hub, was designed to amplify the voices of schools in underserved communities. Destiny Christian Academy’s story resonated deeply with summit attendees, highlighting the urgent need for targeted support.
Destiny Christian Academy showed us what determination looks like. This partnership proves that when we listen to grassroots voices, we can create real change.
The initiative aligns with Sierra Leone’s national digital transformation agenda, which prioritizes equitable access to technology in education. The Ministry has pledged continued support, including maintenance, digital literacy workshops, and community engagement to maximize the long-term benefits.
This moment is more than a donation—it’s a blueprint for inclusive development. As Sierra Leone continues to invest in digital infrastructure, Destiny Christian Academy stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when leadership, innovation, and community resilience converge.
