The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has confirmed the arrest of a 16-year-old boy in connection with the alleged killing of his guardian, Catherine Valentina Kamanda, a Matron at Connaught Hospital and Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).

In a press release issued on 11th February 2026, the Police disclosed that the incident occurred at the deceased’s residence at No. 5 Kamanda Drive, Peninsula, Goderich, Freetown.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged homicide took place between 11:00 p.m. on 8th February and midnight at the victim’s home.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has taken into custody Goodluck Nicol, aged 16 years, who is reported to be the adopted son of the deceased and resided at the same address.

“The suspect has allegedly confessed to striking the victim on the head with a pestle and is currently assisting the Police with investigations,” the statement noted.

The Police further clarified that the incident was not a robbery, as had earlier been speculated in some quarters.

“The Sierra Leone Police wishes to clarify that the incident is not a robbery,” the release emphasized, adding that the matter remains under active investigation and that further details will be communicated as investigations progress.
