Ruto Mourns With UBA Group Following Deadly Fire Outbreak

 

Kenyan President, William Ruto, has extended a message of condolences to the UBA Group following a devastating fire incident at Afriland Building in Lagos in which 10 persons died and several others left injured.

The fire incident happened on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

The Afriland Building in Lagos houses a UBA branch and UBA Capital.

In a post on Facebook, President Ruto said “Our thoughts are with the families, survivors, and the entire UBA Group fraternity, led by its Chairman, Tony Elumelu, following the tragic fire incident on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, at the Afriland Building in Lagos, which houses a UBA branch and UBA Capital.”

He lamented that “This devastating incident claimed 10 lives and left several others injured, leaving a deep scar on the UBA family and the wider community.”

According to him, “We stand in solidarity with the affected staff and families during this painful time and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Ten staff members of Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and United Capital Plc died in the fire incident which occurred in the Afriland Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island on Tuesday.

FIRS and United Capital Plc confirmed the deaths of their staff members in separate posts on X (formerly Twitter).
