A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Quozeem Awe, who is said to be the son of a landlord, has been accused of stabbing a nursing mother to death following a disagreement over unpaid rent in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State of Nigeria.
Local media reports said the victim has been identified as Deborah Adeleye.
Reports say she was killed during the incident.
Her husband, Mathew Adeleye, and their daughter also sustained injuries in the attack, according to reports.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the Ore Alaba area.
Eyewitnesses who spoke with the Ondo State-owned publication, Hope Newspaper, said the violence allegedly stemmed from a dispute over unpaid rent between Awe and Mathew Adeleye, who occupies an apartment in a building owned by Awe’s father.
According to reports, the disagreement had lasted for several weeks before escalating. Awe was said to have entered the tenants’ apartment armed with a knife and a cutlass.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Mathew Adeleye recounted that he and other tenants had previously been served a quit notice even though their rent had not yet expired.
He explained that his rent was due to run out on March 16 and that he had already begun arrangements to move to another apartment in response to the notice.
