The High Court in Pretoria, South Africa, has temporarily closed its doors due to water outages and non-functional generators, marking the second time in a week that a major court in South Africa has shut down due to water shortages. Just last week, the High Court in Johannesburg faced a similar situation, highlighting the severity of the water crisis in the region.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ), the court’s temporary closure is a result of load shedding in the Pretoria CBD, which has affected the court and surrounding buildings. The OCJ has apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured affected parties that alternative arrangements will be made for all matters scheduled on the court roll for the day.

The city has also issued an apology to residents for the power outages, stating that technicians are working to resolve the issue. A 132kV transformer tripped at the Boom Street Substation, causing the power outage, and technicians are on site to address the problem.

This latest development highlights the ongoing struggles with infrastructure and basic services in South Africa. Residents in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Ekurhuleni are bracing for extended water outages due to planned maintenance by Rand Water, which is expected to last 117 hours. The maintenance aims to ensure the long-term reliability of the water supply in these areas.

As the situation continues to unfold, residents and businesses are advised to stay informed and plan accordingly.
