On August 4, 2025, Nigeria’s D’Tigress clinched their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 78-64 in the final in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, solidifying their dominance in African women’s basketball since 2017. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu honored the team’s achievement with significant rewards, mirroring those given to the Super Falcons.
Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima announced the rewards at a special reception on August 4, 2025, at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. Each player received $100,000 and an apartment, while each coaching staff member was awarded $50,000 and an apartment. Additionally, all team members, including players and coaches, were conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The victory, celebrated across social media platforms like X, underscored D’Tigress’ continued excellence, with fans praising their resilience and teamwork in securing Nigeria’s eighth AfroBasket title.
