President William Ruto has said his administration is taking decisive steps to address long-standing development gaps in the Nyanza region of Kenya, citing what he described as historical injustices that have held the area back.
“For far too long, Nyanza region has lagged behind in terms of development because of historical injustices. This is unacceptable,” the President said, adding that “We are, therefore, boldly correcting the intentional discrimination by implementing transformative projects in the region.”

Highlighting ongoing investments in Migori County, President Ruto said the government is committing “KSh45 billion – the highest since independence – in projects that will uplift the people.” He noted that the projects include “10 new roads worth KSh1.7 billion and affordable housing project at a cost of KSh23 billion.”

The President added that other initiatives in the county include “the construction of a new stadium at KSh900 million and the KSh500 million Muhuru Bay pier, among other investments.”

President Ruto made the remarks at Rongo University in Migori County during the 5th Piny Luo Festival. He also said that earlier in the day he had “laid the foundation stone for Rongo University hostels that will accommodate more than 2,300 students.”
