President Mahama Holds Strategic Meeting with Afreximbank on First Day in Office

Following his inauguration into office as the new President of Ghana on Tuesday 7th January 2025, H.E John Drahamani Mahama held a high-priority meeting with Prof Benedict Oramah the President and Board Chairman of African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and his team. The meeting, which took place at the President’s private office, centered on Ghana’s pressing energy crisis and the country’s future infrastructure development.

“We are committed to addressing Ghana’s energy challenges with the support of our key partners, including Afreximbank, this partnership is crucial for building sustainable solutions.” H.E Mahama remarked.

He went on to commend Afreximbank’s steadfast dedication to Africa’s economic development and its strong partnership with Ghana. As his administration prioritizes stabilizing the macroeconomy, enhancing local participation in extractive industries, and advancing investment in agriculture and agribusiness.

Prof. Benedict Oramah who led the high-level delegation to meet with H.E. Mr. John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed Afreximbank’s unwavering commitment to Ghana’s development, showcasing the Bank’s ongoing support in key areas such as trade-enabling infrastructure, the energy sector, and fortifying the domestic financial system. Prof Oramah said “Afreximbank remains committed to supporting these vital goals driving development and economic prosperity”.

Prince Hissan Siita Sofo, President of the AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Federation (AfYEF), in his reaction to the meeting emphasized the collaboration between Afreximbank and African SMEs through platforms like MANSA and Africa Trade Gateway (ATG), thereby promoting digital inclusion for businesses across Africa.

He therefore commended President Mahama’s leadership for its vision. “This meeting is the beginning of a transformative journey,” Sofo added, optimistic about the potential outcomes for Ghana’s future, SME’s and youth entrepreneurs in the country.
