Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, has paid tribute to his former vice presidential candidate, Dr. Kadie Sesay, who passed away recently.
“With a profoundly heavy heart, I paid tribute to an extraordinary pacesetter and pioneer in so many ways—my former vice presidential candidate from 2012, Dr. Kadie Sesay,” President Bio says after attending her burial service in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

He praised her legacy, stating, “Her life and example have empowered countless women and shown millions of girls what is possible and what can be achieved. Her legacy will always be a source of inspiration.”
The President also extended his condolences to Dr. Sesay’s family, adding, “Isha and Mahmud will deeply feel your absence, but Sierra Leone will feel it even more. You touched the lives of so many, and your dedicated service to our nation will forever be cherished.”
Kadi Sesay (born 4 March 1949) was a Sierra Leonean politician, feminist, pro-democracy advocate and the vice presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). She served as Sierra Leone Minister of Trade and Industry from 2002 to 2007.

She is the founder and Managing Director of Leone Consulting & Advisory Services – for Trade, Investment and Development.
She is the mother of former CNN International news anchor Isha Sesay.
Kadi Sesay was not in good health after the massive stroke she suffered about ten years ago.
