President Hakainde Hichilema today led diplomats, service chiefs, and citizens in commemorating Zambia’s 2025 Remembrance Day, held at the Cenotaph in Ndola, to honour the gallant men and women who sacrificed their lives during the First and Second World Wars.
The solemn ceremony was marked by the laying of wreaths and the observance of a two-minute silence in tribute to the servicemen, women, and civilians who lost their lives during the wars.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, President Hichilema reflected on the significance of the day, saying, “Today in Ndola, we bow our heads in reverent memory of the brave souls who laid down their lives in service of our nation.”

He further paid homage to the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom and peace, stating, “On this Remembrance Day, we honour their courage, their steadfastness, and the sacred sacrifice they made for democracy, freedom, and the enduring cause of peace.”

President Hichilema also extended his tribute to members of the Zambia Defence Force and Security Services for their continued dedication to national and international peace.

“We also pay tribute to the Zambia Defence Force and Security Services, whose vigilance guards our borders, and to the gallant men and women serving in UN peacekeeping missions abroad. Their devotion and bravery remind us that the spirit of service transcends borders and unites us in a shared duty to humanity,” he said.

Concluding his message, the Head of State called for national unity and gratitude in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“May the memory of the fallen strengthen our resolve, inspire our hearts, and call us to live in solidarity, gratitude, and unwavering respect for those who gave all so that we might live free,” President Hichilema said.

The Remembrance Day commemoration continues to serve as a poignant reminder of the price paid for peace and freedom, as the nation stands together in honour of its heroes.
