Sierra Leonean President, Julius Maada Bio, has launched Sierra Leone’s Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) for Water, Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH).

Launched on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Freetown, the capital of Sierra, the MPA aims to improve water security and access to water, sanitation, and hygiene across Sierra Leone.

The program, supported by the World Bank, will include a systematic approach to capacity building, efficiency incentives, financial sustainability, and overall transformation of the WASH sector in Sierra Leone.

The MPA allows for a phased implementation, enabling the Sierra Leonean government to address challenges and adapt strategies as needed.

According to President Bio, his “administration is fully committed to establishing a robust infrastructure that ensures every Sierra Leonean has access to safe water and sanitation,” adding that “Together, we will achieve this goal.”

“I am deeply appreciative of the unwavering support from our partners, particularly the World Bank, in advancing our development initiatives,” he said.
