Gambian President, Adama Barrow, has unveiled 180 tractors as part of his administration’s efforts to modernize agriculture in The Gambia.
The tractors were unveiled at the State House Grounds in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia for onward nationwide distribution.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, President Adama Barrow highlighted his government’s vision of modernising agriculture as a tool for national development.
According to him, “Mechanisation is imperative, if we are to feed our growing population, create jobs for our youth, and reduce our import bill. To get the most out of it, however, we must mechanise responsibly, transparently, and sustainably. That is why a co-financing model has been introduced to ensure ownership and accountability from both the Government and beneficiaries.”
He appealed to Gambian farmers to take full ownership of the initiative to maximise yields and complement government’s drive toward food security.
