The Borno State Police Command has recovered a substantial cache of ammunition in Maiduguri, reinforcing ongoing security operations in the state’s capital.
Police operatives uncovered 912 rounds of B32 armour-piercing incendiary (API) ammunition, calibre 7.62 × 51mm, concealed in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri. The discovery followed actionable intelligence received by the command.
Intelligence-Led Operation
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the operation was carried out on January 4, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., by officers from the Lamisula Division under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the location after receiving credible intelligence, where the hidden ammunition was successfully located.
Safety Measures and Investigation
Upon discovery, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was immediately deployed to the scene. The area was cordoned off to prevent public access, and all 912 rounds were safely recovered in line with standard operational procedures.
ASP Daso confirmed that the ammunition has been secured, while investigations are ongoing to determine:
• The source of the ammunition
• Its intended use
• Those responsible for concealing it
Police Commend Public Cooperation
The Commissioner of Police praised members of the public for providing timely and reliable information, describing community cooperation as vital to effective policing in Borno State.
He further encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities, movements, or objects to security agencies to help prevent criminal and insurgent-related threats.
Wider Security Context
The recovery comes amid intensified security operations in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. Recently, troops of Operation Hadin Kai also uncovered a separate arms-related cache, including 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, concealed in a drainage system in the Bulumkutu area of the city.
Security agencies say such recoveries underscore the importance of intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts in maintaining peace and stability in Borno State.
