Police in Yobe State,Nigeria have arrested a 30-year-old man identified as Nasiru Junaidu for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in Damaturu, the state capital.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Abdulkarim said Junaidu allegedly lured the minor into a shop on multiple occasions in the Timber Shade area of Damaturu where the sexual abuse took place.
Police officers attached to the ‘A’ Division Headquarters arrested the suspect on November 3 after receiving a report on the incident. The victim was immediately rescued and taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
“The suspect is currently in police custody,” the PPRO stated, adding that the case has been forwarded to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and to facilitate prosecution.
Child rights activists in the state have again called on authorities to intensify efforts to protect minors and ensure quicker conviction of offenders, as incidents of sexual violence against children continue to rise across northern Nigeria. The police have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspected case of abuse.
