Ruth Otabor, the little sister of BBNaija winner and actress, Josephine Otabor, otherwise known as Phyna, has died after she was knocked down recently by a Dangote truck in Nigeria. Ruth was amputated following the accident and was on admission but could not survive.

Eko Solicitors & Advocates, the law firm representing the late Ruth, Phyna and the Otabor family, announced the passing of Ruth in a statement via Phyna’s verified Instagram account on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

According to the law firm in the statement, “With a heavy heart the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs.”

The statement says “The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed.”

The statement signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh, added that “the funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course.”

Call for justice

As Africa Publicity earlier reported, Nigerian actress and entrepreneur Phyna had issued a passionate call for justice after her sister’s legs were crushed by a Dangote truck — leaving one of her legs to amputated.

The devastating accident happened just days after Ruth graduated, turning a moment of celebration into a family nightmare.

In a heart-wrenching video shared online, Phyna was seen in tears, accusing the Dangote Group of showing cold indifference to her sister’s suffering. She  had claimd that despite the company being informed, no representative of Dangote Group in the immediate aftermath of the accident, visited her sister in the hospital to offer support or show concern.

According to her in the video seen by Africa Publicity, immediately following the accident when the family visited the police station to inquire about progress on the case, they were told that the Dangote Group’s manager was on his way. But instead of going to see the victim, Phyna alleges, the manager went straight to the police station — apparently to check on the truck driver responsible for the crash.

Phyna described her sister’s condition at the time as dire. Doctors, she said, had been forced to surgically open Ruth’s stomach to manually remove waste because she could not relieve herself naturally.
