Parliamentarians to vet Nominees For Ghana’s Supreme Court

Lawmakers in Ghana are scheduled to vet nominees to the country’s Super Court.

The vetting of President John Mahama’s Supreme Court nominees, scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16, 2025 and end on June 18, will be done by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

As earlier reported, Mr. Mahama nominated seven Justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the nation’s highest court, in line with Article 144 (2) of the 1992 Constitution.

The nominees include Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba.

Their appointments, once approved by Parliament, is expected to strengthen Ghana’s judiciary even though the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has alleged that Mr. Mahama made the appointments to advance his third term presidential bid.

The vetting process will assess the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and judicial philosophy to determine their suitability for the role. The proceedings are expected to generate public interest as Parliament reviews the nominees’ credentials before final approval.
