Outrage and Suicide Alarm Following Viral Assault Video of TikToker Ekow Danful

The Ghanaian social media space has been thrown into turmoil following the circulation of a disturbing video showing popular content creator Ekow Danful (known online as Ekow Black) physically assaulting a young woman.

The incident has triggered a dual crisis: a wave of public condemnation and an urgent alarm regarding the TikToker’s mental health and safety.

The Viral Incident

On the evening of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, footage surfaced showing Ekow angrily hitting a young lady identified as Rechael. In the video, Ekow is heard shouting, “Foolish girl, foolish girl, leave me alone… Rechael leave me alone,” while onlookers reportedly watched without intervening.

The video immediately sparked a “social media trial,” with thousands of netizens calling on the Ghana Police Service to arrest the influencer, maintaining that no provocation justifies physical violence.

Suicide Alarm and Audio Leak

Amidst the intense backlash, fellow influencer Quecy Official raised an alarm, claiming that Ekow Black has become suicidal. Quecy shared an emotional audio recording allegedly sent by Ekow, in which the creator is heard breaking down in tears.

“It’s bad. What I did was very bad… It was toxic. All this commentary I’m giving now is because tomorrow you people won’t see me. You won’t see me alive again. I swear to God you people won’t see me alive again,” Ekow reportedly stated in the clip.

The Defense: “An Old Video”

According to Quecy Official, Ekow claims the video is an old recording from a past relationship that has been resurfaced maliciously. Ekow alleges that Rechael is a former girlfriend and that her current partner threatened to pay bloggers to leak the footage to ruin his reputation.

Public Discourse and Safety

The situation has reignited several critical debates in Ghana:

  • Accountability: The necessity for public figures to face consequences for domestic violence, regardless of when the incident occurred.
  • Social Media Trials: The impact of “cancel culture” on the mental health of individuals before formal legal proceedings take place.
  • Mental Health Intervention: Calls for urgent professional support to prevent a tragic outcome following Ekow’s specific threats of self-harm.

While the Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official statement on whether an investigation has been opened, the case remains a trending topic across TikTok, X, and Instagram.
