The overthrown President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, has departed Senegal and is now in Brazzaville, the capital of Congo.
Reports by the AFP and the Associated Press revealed he left Senegal where he first sought refuge following the now controversial coup d’etat which took place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Mr. Embalo’s chief of staff, Califa Soares Cassama, is reported to have confirmed to the Associated Press that he was in Congo.
The coup d’etat took place after Embalo and his challenger Fernando Dias both claimed victory in the presidential election held on November 23, 2025.
