Napoli and Belgium striker of Congolese descent, Romelu Lukaku, has alleged that his father’s funeral has been delayed because some people in Kinshasa, DR Congo, have been extorting he and his brother, Jordan Lukaku.

He made the allegation in a post on his official Instagram account.

According to him, some people in Kinshasa are refusing to hand over his father’s body for his burial to take place in Belgium.

He wrote “As you may know, we planned to have the funeral this Friday but because of certain decisions being made in Kinshasa will the funeral take place over there.”

He said “our dad passed away on the 28 of September and we as brothers tried everything to bring his corpse back to Europe but we felt that we were being extorted by some people.”

According to him, “if our father was here today, he wouldn’t accept it. It breaks our soul for us to not put our father to rest.”

Roger Menama Lukaku, born on June 6, 1967, died aged 58 on September 28, 2025. He was a Congolese footballer who played as a forward.

Throughout his career, he played for KV Oostende, KV Mechelen and Germinal Ekeren.
