NPP Targets Full Comeback in 2028, Says No NDC Seat Is Safe

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has signaled a strong push to regain political control in the 2028 general elections, declaring its intention to challenge every parliamentary seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, told members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) that the party is confident of staging a comeback—but only through consistent effort and unity at all levels.

He emphasized that while the NPP believes it could regain a parliamentary majority if elections were held now, such an outcome would depend heavily on discipline, loyalty, and stronger engagement with grassroots supporters, especially young voters on university campuses.

Afenyo-Markin, who also serves as MP for Effutu, used the opportunity to criticize the governing administration, pointing to what he described as unmet expectations. Among the issues he highlighted were delays in implementing the proposed 24-hour economy policy, concerns over cocoa pricing for farmers, and the impact of rising utility tariffs on households.

He also addressed internal and public perceptions about the party, urging TESCON members to push back against claims that the NPP excludes certain ethnic groups. According to him, the party remains committed to inclusivity and national representation.

Adding to the message, Samuel Awuku, Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, reinforced the party’s campaign strategy. He noted that the NPP plans to actively mobilize across tertiary institutions and approach every NDC-held constituency as a competitive race.

He stressed that the 2028 elections would be fiercely contested, with the party determined to leave no seat unchallenged.

The remarks reflect early political positioning as parties begin laying the groundwork for what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral cycle in Ghana.
