Nollywood Actor Taye Arimoro Sues Peggy Ovire for ₦100 Million Over Alleged On-Set Assault

Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has filed a lawsuit against his female colleague, Peggy Ovire, and her production house, seeking a public apology and a massive sum of ₦100,000,000 for alleged assault and a violation of his fundamental human rights during a movie production set.

Arimoro, through his legal counsel, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, filed the petition following a heated confrontation on set that allegedly escalated into a physical altercation.

Details of the Alleged Assault

Taye Arimoro stated during an Instagram livestream that the confrontation began after he attempted to leave the set because his contracted working hours had expired. According to his account, Peggy Ovire and her production team allegedly stopped him from leaving the set, blocking his car, and deliberately damaging his vehicle’s tyres.

Arimoro recounted the moment of conflict: “I said I wanted to go home, but they don’t want me to. They held me against my will, and that wasn’t cool. Why would you block me? I can’t go to my house again? Why? I’m not shooting two scenes. I told you, if it’s 12 p.m., I’m out,” he said.

The actor further accused them of physically assaulting him, which resulted in injuries to his gums and lips. Arimoro described the incident as unprecedented in his career, stating he plans to see a dentist and pursue all legal steps.

“I definitely need to see a dentist because my lower front tooth is damaged, and I’m also seeing a lawyer. I can’t drive my car because they deflated about three of my tyres. It’s really bad. I’ve never experienced anything like this because I don’t cause trouble, especially when it comes to work,” he added.

Peggy Ovire Denies Claims

In her initial response, actress Peggy Ovire denied the allegations in an Instagram update, insisting that Taye Arimoro was the aggressor in the incident.

The legal action highlights a significant dispute over contract boundaries, workplace conduct, and the treatment of actors on Nigerian movie sets.
