By Farook Abdul-karim Sesay, a Sierra Leonean writer and poet
Uncircumcised birth pangs of unrequited pains/ meander through a nation’s merciless monsoon rains/
Sluicing the gullies of the dignity of the gullible with murky clay hue/ deafening the ghoulish gallows with the discordant wails of the undead that flew/
As hybrid monsters ride their wanton chariots/ piercing and hacking the charred torsos of defiant fallen patriots/
Blood curling screams like bellows of crimson clouds paint the mural skies/ while the streams awash with broken spirits that only whisper dirges of sighs/
Shattered anger and suffocated resistance now swept away like floating twigs/ their charred souls sucked into the heartless abyss like guttural grunts of frightened pigs/
Forlorn as the barbarians from Hades brandish steel beaten and forged into submission/ by blacksmiths whose sweat beads caress sinewy brawns hewn from across the ocean/
Chanting rhymes from rites by ancients long forgotten/ knowing their swords and lances are predators of gladiators with barren origin/
For their fate is mauled as impaled shadow patriots/ trampled upon by conquistadors with charging chariots!
