The Nigerian Army has confirmed the tragic death of a soldier who suffered fatal head injuries after being attacked by a mentally unstable individual in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The incident took place on November 16, 2025, around 4:00 pm, while the soldier was deployed to help calm a tense situation during an internal security operation in the community. The soldier was struck on the head with a heavy stick, sustaining severe injuries.
Incident and Aftermath
According to the Army’s statement, colleagues at the scene swiftly neutralized the attacker and recovered the soldier’s weapon.
The injured soldier was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital but was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. He was later laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers of the 81 Division present at the burial.
The Army extended condolences to the soldier’s family, friends, and loved ones, recognizing his commitment and service to the nation. An official investigation has been launched by the 81 Division to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
