Nigerian Police Arrest Lagos’ Most Dangerous Hired Killer

Police in Nigeria, say they have arrested a man considered the most dangerous and highly sought-after hired killer in Lagos in recent years.

 

The alleged hired killer named Wasiu Akinwande, age 44, according to police, was arrested during a coordinated operation code-named ‘Silence, Speed and Surprise’.

 

The coordinated operation was carried out by the Lagos Police Command’s Tactical Squad at Akinwande’s hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.

 

A statement released on Friday, June 20, 2025, and signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the suspect, notorious for unleashing terror in Mushin and its environs, had evaded arrest for years until he was finally tracked to Ogun State.

 

The statement says “Arrest of most wanted vicious and notorious hired killer and head of killers’ gang in the history of Lagos State in recent time, Wasiu Akinwade a.k.a. Olori Eso, and recovery of nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, dagger, walkie-talkies and international passports,” the statement partly read.

Akinwande is believed to have led multiple armed gangs involved in over a decade of deadly crimes, including murder, cult-related violence, armed robbery, and kidnappings.

 

According to the statement, “This serial killer suspect is the most wanted in Lagos history in recent times,” adding that “His arrest is a major success in our sustained efforts to combat violent crimes that threaten the safety of residents in Mushin and several other areas of Lagos.”

 

The statement added that police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and evidence from Akinwande’s residence. The suspect reportedly confessed that he and his gang used the items for their criminal operations.

 

Among the seized items were: Two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, fifty-seven live cartridges, seventy rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, twenty-seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56 round, one dagger, three walkie-talkies, nine international passports belonging to different individuals.

The Command says Akinwande’s long history of violent crimes had inflicted immense pain and lasting trauma on his victims and their families.

 

“His criminal activities have left trauma, horror, agony, and pain in the lives of families affected by his numerous crimes, all of which are currently under investigation,” the statement added.
