The Kwara State Fire Service in Nigeria has recovered the body of a 12-year-old girl who died after accidentally falling into a domestic well in the Ilorin West area of the state capital. The victim, identified as Nabilat of Busari Alao Street in Ikoyi community, reportedly slipped while attempting to fetch water on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Spokesperson for the fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that emergency responders were alerted at about 10:35 a.m. by a resident, Mr. Mayowa, who raised the alarm after seeing the girl fall into the well.

Firefighters were deployed to the scene and successfully retrieved the girl’s body, which was later handed over to a relative present at the location.
According to preliminary information, the child was drawing water when she lost her footing and fell into the uncovered well. Officials said she was already deceased by the time rescuers reached her.
Expressing deep sadness over the tragedy, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged parents and guardians to exercise greater caution and avoid sending young children to fetch water from open or unsafe wells. He also appealed to residents to improve safety measures around domestic wells to prevent similar incidents.
The fire service reiterated its commitment to responding swiftly to emergencies and encouraged the public to report hazardous situations promptly.
