A Nigerian breast cancer patient, Julianna Akamagwuna, has through her family, made an appeal to members of the public for financial support to undergo treatment.

Mrs. Akamagwuna, according to her family, has been bedridden for four years.

The family said she’s in desperate need of more than N8 million to continue her treatment.

According to her family, they have exhausted all their resources on her.

Over the weekend, Mrs. Akamagwuna spoke from her hospital bed, saying , “I want to live. I believe I still have decades ahead if only people can help me treat the breast cancer that is eating me alive. My family cannot afford the cost. We have sold everything, but all efforts so far have ended in failed treatment.”

Mrs Akamagwuna was a businesswoman from Ubulu-Unor in Aniocha-South Local Council in Delta State.

Her husband, Augustine Akamagwuna, says the illness was first diagnosed in September 2020 at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Since then, Mrs Akamagwuna has undergone 13 chemotherapy sessions and 10 radiotherapy sessions, costing millions of naira.

However, her condition has worsened, with the cancer spreading to her spinal cord and lungs, rendering surgery impossible.

According to her family, in February 2025, her health deteriorated further, and doctors recommended a new course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy costing N4.5 million, excluding additional expenses for specialised drugs.

Mr Akamagwuna lost his job in 2023. He says the family has been surviving by God’s grace and can no longer afford the crucial treatments.
