Nigeria: Three Arrested For Over N31.75m Highway Robbery, Police Recover Stolen Truckload of Goods

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered goods valued at N31,750,000 following a highway attack in Ibadan.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing fight against violent crime.

Robbery Along Asejire Axis

According to the statement, the incident occurred along the Coca-Cola area of Asejire in Ibadan, where a five-man gang reportedly robbed a victim, identified as Ezekiel Inije, at gunpoint.

The police said the operation that led to the arrests was launched after credible intelligence was received from members of the public regarding the attack.

CP Orders Immediate Action

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, reportedly directed the CP Monitoring Unit to act swiftly on the information.

Leveraging human intelligence and investigative expertise, operatives tracked the suspects to the Oko area of Ogbomoso, where three members of the alleged syndicate were apprehended.

The suspects were identified as:

•Chigbo Mesoma, 24

•Erondu Wisdom, 29

•Okechukwu Emmanuel, 25

Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the five-man gang.

Items Recovered

Recovered from the suspects were:

•One Howo Long truck with Lagos registration number AAA 724 YJ

•2,000 bags of Karma Agric Chicken Feeds valued at N31,750,000

•One cutlass

•An additional Lagos State vehicle number plate, LSR 339 XW

The police believe the gang specialises in highway robbery and hijacking of goods.

Investigation Ongoing

The command stated that the arrested suspects are cooperating with investigators and have allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. Authorities added that they will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner Haruna commended the CP Monitoring Unit for what he described as professionalism and swift response. He also acknowledged the role of residents whose timely information aided the operation, emphasising that community cooperation remains critical in tackling crime.

The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to continue sharing credible information, with a promise that all tips will be treated confidentially.
