The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed plans to arraign four men suspected to be part of an organised motorcycle theft syndicate operating within and beyond the state.
The suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led operation linked to an earlier police action in which stolen motorcycles were intercepted and recovered. According to the police, the case dates back to December 2025, when officers disrupted the activities of the syndicate and recovered two motorcycles believed to have been stolen.
Arrest Across State Lines
In a statement released on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, explained that while the initial interception took place in Ondo State, the suspects later fled the state to evade arrest. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked and arrested them in neighbouring Edo State.
During the operation, one additional TVS motorcycle was recovered, bringing the total number of recovered motorcycles connected to the case to three.
Suspects Identified
The arrested individuals were identified as:
• Onyeka (male)
• Ekene (male)
• Sunday (male)
• Abubakar (male)
Police said preliminary investigations and interrogation revealed that the suspects allegedly played different roles within the theft network.
Prosecution to Follow Investigation
DSP Jimoh stated that the suspects will be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded, in line with due legal process. He noted that confessional statements were obtained during interrogation, although the police emphasised that the courts will ultimately determine guilt.
Police Reassure Residents
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police used the development to reassure residents of the command’s resolve to combat crime and protect lives and property across the state.
According to the police spokesperson, the commissioner stressed that the command remains proactive in its crime-fighting strategy and warned criminal elements that fleeing across state borders will not shield them from justice.
He also directed all Divisional Police Officers and tactical units to maintain heightened vigilance and strengthen security coverage throughout Ondo State to deter criminal activity.
The police urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and useful information that can help prevent and solve crimes.
