Nigeria Police Force Arrests Woman in Lagos Over Alleged Child Trafficking, Recovers Two-Month-Old Baby

Detectives in Lagos have arrested a 53-year-old woman in connection with an alleged child trafficking case and rescued a two-month-old baby said to have been sold for ₦6 million.

The suspect, identified as Peace Ifeoma Emeka, was apprehended in the Agege area following ongoing investigations into a reported case of child abduction and trafficking.

Alleged ₦6 Million Transaction

According to police sources, the arrest was made after investigators traced the infant to the suspect’s custody. During questioning, she allegedly admitted to purchasing the baby for ₦6 million from another woman, Joy Chiedozie.

Chiedozie had earlier been arrested and arraigned before an Idanyin Magistrate Court. Authorities say her case is currently awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which will determine the next steps in prosecution.

Baby Placed in Protective Care

The rescued infant has since been placed under protective care while authorities work to ensure the child’s safety and well-being. Officials say efforts are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged sale and to identify any additional individuals who may have been involved.

Police have reiterated their commitment to combating child trafficking and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities involving minors to law enforcement agencies. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
