The Niger State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in tackling a sophisticated syndicate specializing in the abduction, trafficking, and sale of children, arresting multiple suspects, including a pastor, and recovering six abducted children.
The success story stems from a month-long investigation that began after a woman, Victoria Chukwumezie, was arrested at Dikko junction with three children she had abducted and sold.
The Pastor’s Role and Financial Gain
The complex web of trafficking led investigators to trace one of the victims, 2-year-old Rahamat Mohammed, to a pastor in Abuja who had bought the child for ₦2.8 million. During interrogation, it was discovered that the pastor had in turn sold the girl to another buyer in Delta State for ₦3.8 million, making a profit of ₦1 million from the transaction.
The state police command, through its Spokesman, Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, provided details of the investigation chain:
“On getting to Asaba, the Police team recovered one Rahamat Mohammed, 2 years of Sabon-Wuse, Tafa and investigation revealed that Victoria had taken Rahamat from Sabon-Wuse on October 2nd, 2025 and sold her to one Rosemary of Nyanya, Abuja. Rosemary equally sold the girl to one Pastor Vincent Emmanuel of Asosi, Abuja at the rate of two million, eight hundred thousand naira, and the pastor in turn sold her to a lady Anthonia Nwabufor at a cost of three million, eight hundred thousand naira.”
The statement noted that Anthonia Nwabufor is based in London but directed that Rahamat be delivered to her mother in Asaba, who would arrange the child’s movement to join her in the UK.
Investigation Progress
Superintendent Abiodun confirmed that a total of six children have already been recovered so far through the ongoing investigation. Additionally, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime and are currently assisting the police.
The arrested suspects, including the pastor, are facing charges related to child stealing, abduction, and human trafficking. The police assured the public that further investigation is actively in progress to dismantle the entire syndicate.
