Police in Nigeria’s Rivers State have arrested a married man who allegedly stabbed his side chic several times after she reportedly rejected his marriage proposal.
The man, aged 46 and identified as Abi Baragon, left his side chic life-threatening injuries after the stabbing.
It would be recalled that in a video that went viral in June 2025, the side chic cried for help after the man left her in a pool of her own blood.
In a statement released on October 17, 2025 and signed by its spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers State Police Command noted that following the receipt of the viral video, operatives attached to the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port-Harcourt, swiftly swung into action, leveraging intelligence-led policing and technical support and apprehended the suspect on October 13, 2025 in connection with the crime.
According to the statement, ‘’It was alleged that the suspect’s motive for the assault stems from the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures, prompted by her discovery that the suspect was already married with four children, an allegation he denied.”
It said during further interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed that he used bottles and stabbed the victim.
The suspect is currently in Police custody, while the victim is receiving Medical treatment in the Hospital, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. ‘’ the statement read.
It added that the state Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the efforts of the Operatives in apprehending the suspect and appreciates the public’s support and cooperation in sharing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.
