Nigeria: Man Fatally Stabbed by Friend During Dispute Over Woman in Kwara

A 25-year-old man, identified as Hammed Usman Tunde, was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, Gafar, during an argument reportedly over a woman in the Oja Gboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, when the two friends, described by witnesses as close companions, got into a heated exchange while buying sugarcane from a roadside vendor. The quarrel quickly escalated, and the 21-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed Tunde in the chest with a knife.

Tunde, a resident of Ile-Soro 2 in Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, was rushed to a nearby private hospital before being transferred to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The suspect, a native of Ile Olowo in the same area, fled the scene immediately after the attack. His whereabouts — along with those of his family members — remain unknown as of the time of this report.

Speaking to Sobi FM, the victim’s sister described the killing as devastating and urged the Kwara State government and security agencies to ensure justice is served. She said her brother was a peaceful person who did not deserve such a violent end.

The deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rites at his family home in Ile-Soro 2, Oja Gboro, Ilorin.

Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but investigations are reportedly underway to apprehend the suspect.
