Residents of Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Government Area were thrown into fear late Friday night after armed men abducted a couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Jamiu Olawale, outside their residence.
The incident occurred on February 20 in the quiet community located in Ondo State. According to local accounts, the couple had just returned from their shop and were relaxing in front of their home when gunmen suddenly emerged from a nearby bush. Witnesses said the attackers, who were armed, forcefully whisked the couple away before anyone could respond.
In the course of the нападение, a neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, who was seated outside his own house, was reportedly shot by the assailants. He was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition has not been officially disclosed.
Confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami, said the police have launched a coordinated rescue operation. She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has deployed tactical units alongside conventional police teams to comb surrounding bushes and nearby areas in search of the victims.
The police assured residents that efforts are underway to secure the safe release of the couple and bring those responsible to justice. Authorities have also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation by reporting to the nearest police station.
The attack adds to growing concerns over security in parts of the state, as communities continue to call for stronger measures to curb kidnapping and violent crimes.
