Nigeria: Farouk Ahmed Resigns After Dangote Accused Him of Blowing $5 Million On Kids Education In Switzerland

The CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, has resigned following allegations by Nigerian billionaire, Aliko Dangote, that he spent a whopping $5 million on the secondary school education of his four children in Switzerland. 

Mr. Ahmed met with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 and resigned after the meeting.

Africa Publicity understands that he was summoned to the Presidential Villa in Abuja after Dangote levelled economic sabotage and corruption allegations against him.

Aside Farouk Ahmed, Gbenga Komolafe, the CEO of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), also resigned.

A statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Tinubu on information and strategy, announced the resignations.

According to the statement, President Tinubu has nominated successors to the senate for approval.

It says “Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).”

The statement added that “The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC.

“Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).”

The statement indicated that “To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.”
