Nigeria: Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price to ₦739/Litre at MRS Outlets Nationwide

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun the nationwide sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at a pump price of ₦739 per litre through all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations, a move aimed at easing fuel costs and improving supply stability across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the refinery confirmed that the new price is being rolled out across more than 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, ensuring broad consumer access to the reduced-rate fuel.

Boost to Supply During Festive Period

The refinery said the intervention is particularly significant as it coincides with the festive season, a period historically marked by fuel shortages and price spikes. With a guaranteed daily supply capacity of about 50 million litres, Dangote Refinery noted that the initiative is expected to fundamentally change supply dynamics and prevent scarcity during peak demand.

Call for Industry Support

Commending MRS and other marketers that have already reflected the new price at the pump, the refinery urged more operators in the downstream sector to align with the pricing regime.

“We commend marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by passing on the price reduction to consumers and encourage others to do the same in support of national economic recovery,” the statement said.

Economic and Forex Impact

Dangote Refinery highlighted that large-scale local refining is helping Nigeria reduce dependence on imported fuel, conserve foreign exchange, stabilize the naira, and strengthen the country’s energy security. The sustained price cut, it added, is already offering relief to households, transport operators, and businesses.

Warning Against Artificial Scarcity

The company cautioned against any attempts by unscrupulous operators to hoard fuel or create artificial shortages in response to the price reduction. It called on regulatory agencies to closely monitor the market and take firm action against price manipulation, especially during the festive period.

“Any attempt to frustrate these reductions through artificial scarcity is unacceptable and unpatriotic,” the statement warned.

Advice to Consumers

Consumers were advised to avoid buying petrol at inflated prices when cheaper, locally refined fuel is available. The refinery encouraged the public to report any MRS station selling above ₦739 per litre via the hotline 0800 123 5264.

Long-Term Commitment

Dangote Petroleum Refinery reiterated that its pricing and supply strategy is driven by long-term national interest rather than short-term market pressures.

“Our goal remains to provide a consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices, support economic stability, and significantly reduce Nigeria’s reliance on fuel imports,” the company said.

The refinery also called on more fuel station operators to patronize its products to help extend the benefits of the price reduction to all parts of the country.
