A private jet suffered a tyre burst today at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, prompting a temporary closure of the runway.
The aircraft, a Gulfstream 400 registered as 5N-PZE, sustained damage to its nosewheel while landing at approximately 2 p.m.
Incident Details and Response
A source familiar with the situation confirmed that the jet had departed from Enugu Airport and was carrying 10 passengers and four crew members at the time of the incident. Critically, all 14 people onboard were reported safe and unharmed.
“Yes, I can confirm an aircraft incident on Abuja Airport’s runway today. The plane came from Enugu and had a nosewheel issue upon landing. All 14 people onboard, including four crew members, are safe. The airport experienced only a brief closure,” the source said.
The prompt evacuation of the aircraft from the runway ensured that the airport facility only experienced a brief closure, minimizing disruption to other scheduled flights. An investigation into the cause of the mishap is expected to commence shortly.
