The Abia State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating in Aba and its environs, rescuing 18 children, including 8 infants, and arresting 10 suspects in a coordinated series of raids.
Police spokesperson DSP Maureen C. Chinaka disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 10, 2025, noting that the operation followed a report of abduction involving a young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
According to the statement, the woman was lured to Aba by a man pretending to seek marriage, only to have her two children abducted upon arrival. Acting on credible intelligence, police officers traced the network and carried out multiple raids that led to the arrests and rescues.
During the first operation on October 8, officers stormed a residence suspected of harboring trafficked children, arresting five suspects—Mrs. Best Ndubusi (41), Charles Enyinnaya (25), Eunice Ezekiel (35), Nnena Kalu (60), and Gideon Esther (25)—and rescuing one infant and seven children.
Further investigations led to another raid on October 9 along the Aba/Owerri Road, where officers apprehended four additional suspects—Obiegbunam Von (65), Ezeoma Rejoice (21), Ngozi Owoh (20), and Favour Ernest (22)—and rescued seven infants and three children.
On October 10, police arrested the final suspect, Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22) of Amuoji Uku, Obingwa LGA, and rescued one more child.
DSP Chinaka said investigations are ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Members of the public searching for missing children have been advised to visit the Gender Section of the SCID or contact the Officer-in-Charge of Gender via 08033173846.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to fighting crime and safeguarding residents, urging citizens to remain vigilant, monitor their children closely, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
He emphasized that the crackdown aligns with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to strengthen public safety and promote sustainable peace and development across Abia State.
