Mozambique’s President Daniel Francisco Chapo has officially hailed the national team, the Mambas, for securing a historic place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
To further motivate the squad ahead of their knockout clash against Nigeria, the President has approved a special financial reward for every member of the team and technical crew.
Historical Qualification and Presidential Praise
Mozambique booked their place in the knockout stages after finishing as one of the best third-placed teams in Group F. Despite a narrow 2-1 defeat to Cameroon in their final group game, their overall performance was sufficient to advance.
In a message delivered to the team on Thursday, President Chapo expressed the pride of the nation:

To sharpen the team’s focus for the upcoming match against the Super Eagles—who have emerged as one of the tournament’s top-performing sides—the President approved an extraordinary bonus.

- Bonus Amount: 500,000 meticais (approximately ₦11.3 million) per person.
- Beneficiaries: All players and members of the technical/coaching staff.
- Condition: The reward is contingent on the Mambas defeating Nigeria and reaching the quarter-finals.
